On the Road - OFF LEASH
In the house and in the yard. In fenced in areas. In parking lots. During the day. Under lights in the evening. With treats and without.
It is important to me that Lily be dependable off leash, so I began early. We spent a lot of time in the Commissary parking lot after hours.

Re-teaching ON THE ROAD
Training ON THE ROAD. "Explaining" basic behaviors in new places by re-teaching the behavior, adding Distance, adding Duration. Controlling the environment as much as possible. Learning to focus with different Distractions.

This served me well until we reached Level 4: Dog STANDS from a SIT from 10' away.
At this point, Lily would stand from the distance, but would consistently stand and take a few steps forward. Sue told me to re-teach the behavior by shaping her to step backwards.
Lily is really working hard as we add the distance.
After re-teaching STAND, I became a "true believer" and haven't deviated since.
